In India we have this unique, radical kind of freedom. Here's the definition for those who think it means what the dictionary might say - Freedom is where you are begrudgingly allowed to do what you want to do because there is nothing I can do about it (at least nothing that's not criminal or won't be disapproved of).
A few examples of the kind of freedom I am talking about would be:
If you believe in God the freedom to tell everyone that S/he exists and you must believe in his/her existence. If you are and atheist the freedom to NOT say that S/he doesn't exist (by the way S/he doesn't). The freedom to NOT do or say what you believe or want to do and vice-versa.
If you are a kid (or if you have parents) who feels too warm or uncomfortable the freedom to wear clothes you don't want to wear it even if the heat is killing you. The freedom to let others decide whether you are warm or cold or even how you feel or should feel emotionally.
And If you are person of marriageable age the freedom to choose the person your parents tell you to choose (the freedom to let others decide how to live your life and who to commit all of it to). Imagine the supportive cheers while you make the most important decisions in your life. "I give you the freedom to choose anyone you want to marry. NO, NOT HIM…!!! CHOOSE HIM, CHOOSE HIM!!! NO, DON'T SAY NO TO HIM YOU FOOL!!! I LIKE HIS PARENTS!!!"
And if you're the disgraceful idiot who thinks s/he knows what's good for them you have the freedom to hear them complain about what a nincompoop you are for doing what you want to do and that you should be grateful to them for trying to create the illusion that you have a choice, manipulating or emotionally blackmailing you into doing what they want you to do instead of forcing you as they should have.
